My Experience

Kiawah Island Golf Resort

During the summer of 2021, I had the privilege to work as a recreation intern at Kiawah Island Golf Resort located outside of Charleston, South Carolina. I had the responsibility for planning and overseeing the execution of events at their children’s camp, Kamp Kiawah. Kamp Kiawah is a day camp for children who are guests at the resort and want to meet children their age while participating in arts and crafts, team building activities, and outdoor sports. My favorite experience was setting up and working the Fourth of July BBQ at the Sanctuary Hotel It was an opportunity to experience a facet outside of food production service and was more in alignment with my career goals and passion for events.

Gigi's Cupcakes

While finishing my last year at Auburn, I became familiar with a different part the hospitality industry.  Gigi's Cupcakes is a locally-owned franchise that specializes in making every celebration filled with joy. My position at Gigi's in customer service helped me become comfortable talking with a variety of clientele.  My interactions were as small as helping select the perfect cupcake flavor for a coworker's birthday or finalizing a custom cake design for a baby shower. Nonetheless, each moment meant so much to that individual customer. I added to my skillset and other technical proficiencies such as Foodstorm and planning production for the week. I am truly grateful for my time at Gigi's.

The Foley Depot

My time working at The Foley Depot has taught me vital skills such as customer service and food service. I have been a loyal seasonal employee for over four years. The Depot is small deli open for breakfast and lunch every day, but also provides Baldwin County with some of the best barbeque in the area. The Depot smokes special order ribs and pork butts in-house. During my time working at the Depot, I worked all aspects of front of house and held the position of Weekend Deli Manager.
